The signal converter for ultrasonic medical diagnosis consists of an ultrasonic scanning apparatus with receiver connected to an analog-digital converter. Additional signals related to the geometrical position of each set of echoes are sent to a control unit. A clock-pulse generator in the control unit running at 2 MHz transfers picture information into a random-access memory and from this memory into an intermediate store. Read or write address information is also transmitted. Another series of pulses causes the contents of the intermediate shift-register to be read out. The information corresponds to the number of picture elements in each line of the picture scan. This is fed to a television tube via a digital-analog converter. The television display is synchronised with the pulse control unit.
