Glass (ceramic) moulding tool has a surface which has been chromealuminised to a thickness of =100 mu. The moulding tool is pref. a blowing head, a pressing roller or a part of a mould. The above tools are used esp. to make incandescent lamp envelopes. The cemented, diffusion impregnated layers formed on the ceramic tools augment considerably the working lives of the tools. The tools can be made much more cheaply than using superalloys.
