The inductance extensometer measures elongation of structural members in concrete structures. The extensometer, has a base (10), a moving leg (14) and recesses (16, 18). The recesses (16, 18) are fitted over spherical ends imbedded in the structure to be measured. Relative displacement of the two spherical ends or extension of the structure produces a change in the inductance measured by the sensor (22). This is fitted in the base (10) of the extensometer and has an articulated rod (24) attached to the moving leg (14). The extensometer may be held against the wall by a spring mounting for better contact.
