Bank cash dispenser operated by inserted credit card - checks validity of card and updates credit data returning new card to customer

The automatic cash dispenser for banks is actuated by insertion of a customer credit card. It has means (100) for reading the data recorded on the card (106) and checking this data with stored identification data, to check the validity of the card. This validity check is used to authorise the cash dispensing operation and the customer credit recorded on the card is then updated in accordance with the dispensing operation. The cash dispenser has a stock of credit cards, each of which are only used once, so that the inserted card is retained after the dispensing operation and a new card of identical configuration but carrying the updated credit data, is returned to the customer.
