Machining with eutectic and eutectoid forming cpds. - increases efficiency and reduces tool wear

A process for removing material esp. in a machining or boring operation comprises the use, during the operation, of at least one cpd. capable of forming at least one eutectic or eutectoid with the solid being machined, thus lowering the m.pt. of the latter. The process can be used in abrasive and percussion machining operations, not only with machine tools but also in rock boring processes. The efficiency of the cutting tool is increased and wear on the tool is reduced. The eutectoid/eutectic forming cpds. are supplied in the form of fine particles in a liq. or gaseous carrier. The cpds. may be CaF2, NaAlF6, natural ores of Pb or other metals, essentially with low m.pt., feldspars and other cpds. of alkali metals, as well as micas and other fusible rocks, such as syenite nepheline, reclaimed glasses or enamels, metallurgical slags and appropriate mixts.
