An outside rear-view mirror for motor vehicles comprises a mounting element which is constructed in such a way that it can be fitted at the vehicle body; a mirror element; and devices for connecting the mounting with the mirror element adapted to facilitate the pivoting of the latter. The connecting devices comprise a body of soft yielding material into which a non-elastically deformable elongated core is inserted. This core is fastened, at one of its ends, to the mounting element. The mirror may be swivelled as desired. Its construction eliminates the risk of injury to anyone accidentally knocking against it. The core may be made of a flexible metal (alloy). In a variant, it is tubular and made up of a tightlu wound spiral wire. The soft body may be made of plastics foam, e.g. polyurethane.
