1535953 Processing black liquor JOHN ZINK CO 5 April 1976 [21 July 1975] 13683/76 Heading F4B [Also in Division D2] In a method of processing black liquor to recover chemicals in the pulping process, the liquor is fed by the conduit 10 into a combustion chamber 16 and air is supplied at 20 so that the liquor is burned under less than stoichiometric conditions whereby a large amount of combustibles are created. The gases pass into the quench tank 24 via the section 22 where water and/or green liquor is sprayed into the gases from the conduit 26 to remove particulate matter and thus produce green liquor in the quench tank. Resulting gases and any remaining particles pass through a venturi scrubber 36 where green liquor is injected through the conduit 34 and gases then pass to a vapour liquid separator 28 where further green liquor is separated. Part of the green liquor produced in the quench tank 24 and separator 28 is used to spray in through the conduits 26 and 34 and the remainder may be pumped by the conduit 38 for use elsewhere. Make up water may be introduced into the conduit 26 via conduit 32. Black liquor fed to the combustion chamber 16 by the conduit 10 may be divided so that part flows through the conduit 12 to the burner 14 while the remainder is sprayed into the combustion chamber by way of conduit 18. The residual gases from the separator 28 pass via a conduit 42 for further utilization that may include burning in a combustion zone 56 for heating a boiler 58 with gases finally exhausting via a stack 46.
