The connecting profile is used in door and window frames, and consists of two mating sections with an insulating separator made of plastics. There is a sliding plug with longitudinal ribs. This is keyed in the metal frame profiles, and locks them together. The plug itself is in two halves, symmetrical about two perpendicular axes, and it has a tapering insert consisting of a rod with two side fins. This is pressed in between the plug halves, and swells the plug out, producing a tight engagement between the already loosely interlocked metal frame sections. The assembled plug has a cruciform cross-section, and the parts are held together due to the sawtooth serrations on mating surfaces.
