Tuyere replacement on blast furnaces - where mobile insertion tool is fitted with ram hammering tuyere into tymp

Device for servicing blast furnace tuyeres, using a trolley fitted with a moving holder for a tuyere, the novelty being the inclusion of a ram, driven by hydraulic cylinders and springs, and employed to hammer the tuyere into the tymp. The ram pref. hits a limit stop mounted on the holder shaft which is fitted with a ball joint employed to locate a head holding the tuyere. The head pref. included a U-shaped component pushed against the rear surface of the tuyere. In the pref. device, two springs are fitted between the ram and a thrust plate, and two hydraulic cylinders compress the springs until a trigger mechanism releases the springs which drive the ram against the limit stop. Tuyeres were previously inserted manually, four or five men being required in an inefficient and hazardous operation.
