Ball mill automatic feed control system - employs material feed signals to control sequential entry of different sized balls

A wet ball mill has the grinding balls fed by an automatic control system governed by the amount of the charge received from a preceding stage. The material is supplied to the previous stage by an integrating balance which also feeds signals controlling the charging of balls to the ball mill. The supply of material to the ball mill is controlled by a flow meter and a density meter located on the feed and delivery lines for the ball mill. A rotating hopper above the delivery tube to the ball mill has compartments for different sizes of balls, and their delivery in sequence, controlled by signals from the integrating balance, takes account of ball wear during operation. The drive motor is controlled in sequence with the opening of flaps under each compartment.
