Carding device has feed roll speed controlled - to feed fibre lap onto carding roll in dependence on thickness of fibre lap

A carding machine includes a main card roller onto which fibres are fed by a feed roll co-operating with pref. a feed table. Connected to the axis of the feed rol are two radial arms connected by linkages to pref. cams rotating with a doffing roll which removes the carded fibre lap from the carding roll. Dependent on movement of the radial arms in accordance with variations in the thickness of te fibre lap passing between the table and the feed roll the rotational speed of the feed roll and also pref. the doffing roll is controlled. The speed of operation of the carding device is controlled in dependence on variations in thickness of the fibre lap, thereby producing a more uniform carded lap.
