Lapping machine for flat ring shaped surfaces - has lapping disc coupled with spindle by universal joint made up of thrust bearing and pick ups

The lapping machine is for lapping a flat ring-shaped surface with a driven spindle which supports the front lapping disc. The lapping disc (16) is coupled with the spindle (14) by a universal joint (28-36) so that it can pivot to all sides. The universal joint consists of a thrust bearing (28, 30) which connects the spindle (14) with the lapping disc (16) and of pick-ups (32, 36) at the shaft (14) and the lapping disc (16). The universal joint is in a conical insert (32), which is fitted into an axial, conical bore (34) of the lapping disc (16). The thrust bearing consists of a cup (28), in which rests an equi-axial tip. The pick-ups of the spindle and the lapping disc consist of a cross pin (36) and stop faces (38).
