Sintered hard bodies for reinforcing metal cutting tools, e.g. lathe-, boring- or milling tools or tools for non-cutting deformation, consist of (i) 3-60 pref. 20-40 wt. % diamond-wetting metal alloy (I) or metal melting at 1400 degrees C at mornal press., and (ii) diamond. They are pref. prepd. by sintering the powdered materials, esp. of particle size 200 mu, at temps. and pressures of thermodynamic diamond-stable range, e.g. 1100-1400 degrees C and 40-55 kbars. Pref. (I) is a Co alloy, esp. a eutectic Co-Ta, Co-Ti or Co-B alloy. Powder mixt. may contain 15 vol % graphite.
