The rotary hydraulic machine has a barrel-type rotor working in a stator. It also has an inclined swashplate against whose smooth surface shoes, on ball-and-socket joints on the ends of plungers, run. The plungers work in bores in the rotor spaced evenly round its axis. The end of each plunger nearest the joint is fixed to a rigid support component sliding against an external skirt rotating with the rotor. The skirt encloses all portions of the plungers outside the bores, so as to absorb the radial reaction forces. The balls are solidly fixed to the shoes and each fits in a spherical socket in the outer end of the respective plunger. The support component extends between two planes perpendicular to the rotor centre line and is joined to the plunger concerned.
