A mould assembly for cell-forming plastics materials is intended to be connected to an injection moulding machine. One half-mould is mounted on a closure plate supported from a baseplate while the other half-mould is mounted on a pivoting plate, hinged to the baseplate. The closure plate is guided on the baseplate and can be raised from it, sliding up and guided along =2 slotted levers on opposite sides of the plate; the slots are cranked so that as the guide lugs fixed to the closure plate move down the slots, the levers are pivoted (out of the vertical into the dotted position) and disengage from the pivoting plate, whereas in the reverse movement the levers swing into engagement with the pivoting plate. The closure plate is pref. driven by a piston-cylinder unit fixed to the baseplate, and is guided by a pair of guide rods sliding in fixed tubes in the baseplate. Initial opening of the mould takes place perpendicularly to the parting plane. The levers then disengage the pivoting plate, so that it can be swung up into the fully open position.
