The reaction is executed with heating at a temp. at which ether-exchange and molecular rearrangement occurs. The reaction is promoted by phenols or sulphonic acids. Opt. a suitable solvent may be used as reaction medium. The prod. is useful as an intermediate for insecticidal cpds., e.g. 3-phenoxybenzyl, 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl) cyclopropanecarboxylate.
