The joint absorbs all variations in the length of plastics pipes due to expansion and contraction, what ever their direction and position. It comprises an external tube (1), with fittings at the ends (2) allowing it to slide over and clean the outsides of pipe (5) subjected to expansion and contraction. The tube is held in place by one or more collars fitting between stops (8) on the outside of it. The sliding and fittings can be plastic sockets, equipped with internal joints. Cleaning can be effected by a joint acting as a scraper, on the outer end of the socket.
