The rule described has a parallelepiped cross section and comprises a body made from a non magnetic material and one or more magnetic elements inside this body, e.g. several magnetic elements (8) may be placed in spaced orifices (9) in the body (6) or a magnetic strip may be placed in a groove in one of the body's faces. The rule has a series of graduations (10) on one of its faces; this face may be inclined w.r.t. the adjacent faces. The rule is used for scribing on metallic sheets. It is of simple inexpensive construction and remains fixed to the sheet, in the desired position, during the scribing process.
