9-Antimonic-(21)-tungsto-sodate heteropolyanions - pref. as the ammonium or metal salts are antivirals synergistic with interferon, active against leukaemia and sarcoma viruses

Compsn. for the prophylactic or therapeutic treatment of viral infections or pathological processes caused by viruses contains a 9-antimonic-(III)-21-tungsto-(IV)-sodate heteropolyanion of formula NaSb9W21O86 18-. The heteropolyanion is present as the ammonium or metal (pref. alkali metal or alkaline-earth metal) salts or their hydrates e.g. NaSb9W21O86 (NH4)18 and its octahydrate. the compsn. may also contain a synergistically effective quantity of interferon. This addition is mainly to clarify the structure of HPA 23 claimed in the parent patent e.g. ammonium salt is given as Sb2W5O20 (NH4)4.H2O in the parent patent. Compsns. have good in-vitro activity against RNA and DNA non-oncogenic viruses such as leukemia and sarcoma viruses.
