The ski release bindings comprise an electromagnet fitted behind the sole plate and retaining this on the ski, its plunger entering a catch. The front of the plate is held under a lip and the ski boot is on top. Behind the electromagnet is the dry battery supplying the power. A push button fits into the top of the ski stick, wires running through the skier's clothing to the battery. Under normal conditions, the electromagnet is not energised. If a fall is imminent, the push button is pressed, energising the magnet to withdraw the plunger and release the sole plate.
