The universal prehension tool has two jaws (1, 2) which displace linearly relative to one another. The jaws automatically converge to take an initial grip, and adjustable increased gripping force is applied by a secondary lockable hand leverage system. The tool may have a handle (H) of elongated uniform width plate with the fixed jaw (1) mounted transversely at one end. The mobile jaw (2) slides along the handle (1) and is guided by a return folding of each of the longitudinal handle edges. Long weak springs (3) in each edge fold ensure that the mobile jaw (2) converges on the static jaw (1) to take the initial grip.
