Bar stock roughing machine tool - with bar lengths secured in notched discs rotated by indexing drive driven by shaft mounted in supports carrying tool sets

The machine tool is for rough-machining of bar stock prior to finish-machining, the bar being parted off into lengths, turned down at the ends and drilled with centring holes. It has two notched disc, (25, 26) spaced apart on a common shaft (19) and with clamps for the bars (1) securing them in the notches. The distance between the discs is less than that of the bar lengths. The discs are rotated through constant angles by an indexing drive coupled to the shaft, which works in supports on either side of the discs. The supports carry two identical sets of machining tools, opposite each other, and the notches are brought into line with these sets of tools so that the machining operations can be carried out on the bars in succession.
