A single revolution coupling for the binder shaft and needle drive of a baling press with couplings for opposed directions of rotation which can be arested with pawls has inner and outer coupling sections (9 10) releasably arranged on a binder shaft (2). A drive gear (8) can be connected with the inner coupling section (9) through a stop (19) via a roller (12). The same drive gear can also be connected with the outer coupling section (10) through a pick up (19) via a roller (21). A run off incline (25) to the outlet of the needles (7) from the pressing channel (1) is fitted to a cam plate (23) and a run on incline is fitted to the insert of the knotting sections. This run off incline has a smaller radius of curvature with respect to the cam path (23).
