The bank deposit box, which may be located in the foyer of a bank or encased in an external wall, has an electronic control unit (5), for verifying a user's identification card, to dispense an envelope into which the bank deposit can be inserted. The envelope is then pushed through an insertion aperture (4) to fall into a safety box (D) with a device for counting the inserted envelopes. Pref. the insertion aperture (4) is normally closed by a hinged flap, which is pivoted to allow insertion of the envelope under control of a verification signal from the control unit (5).
