The box with safety lock has a lid hinging on the container portion. One of these has a bolt (8) sliding axially so as to engage in the catch (5) which protrudes from the other. The bolt slides into a notch (6) formed in the first component, of complementary shape so as to accommodate the catch in the closed position. The bolt can be a metal bar sliding parallel to the hinge axis and to the edges of the two components when shut. A radial arm (17) on the bar can be swung on its centre line so as to lock the bar in the engaged position by engaging by friction in a recess (19) formed in the second component.
