Silencer for pneumatic cylinders - uses jet pump to reduce back pressure in exhaust chamber with perforated plate leading to ejector and secondary silencer

The silence is intended for reducing the noise emitted by the air exhausted from pneumatic cylinders. The pipe (1) from the pneumatic cylinder projects inside the exhaust chamber (2). The velocity of the air leaving the pipe (1) entrains air from the chamber (2) and acts as a jet pump in creating a depression in the chamber. The air then flows through the secondary silencer (4). The depression created in the chamber (2) not only reduces the noise but enables the pneumatic cylinder to be exhausted more rapidly. The effectiveness can be further improved by adding a second similar stage. The silencer can also be used with internal combustion engines.
