Parent patent describes a welding burner using a tubular core (I) contg. a clamp for a refractory electrode projecting beyond the burner; (I) is located in a second tube (II), forming channels feeding gas to a distribution chamber and then through an annulus round the electrode in the burner nozzle, (II) also forms water channels cooling the gas distribution chamber and the nozzle. The nozzle is surrounded by an outer sheath forming a second, large annulus for the passage of protective gas. The improvement is that the electrode cna be inclined at an oblique angle (a) w.r.t. the workpiece, where (a) is pref. 0-65 degrees from a line perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece. In one pref. burner, tubes (1,2) are mounted in a ball located in a ball seat fitted on top of the outer sheath; or in a block capable of holding several burners where angle (a) can be varied for each burner, esp. using either two or three burners. High welding speeds and better weld quality can be obtd. e.g. in the seam welding of stainless steel 304 tube with thickness 20/10 mm at a speed of 1.5 m/minute, using TIG welding.
