The equipment consists of a boxed compartment, with an internal light, with certain faces being either translucent or transparent so that messages or designs can be fixed inside. There is also a device to play back recorded messages. The compartment can also have a loudspeaker, a date indicator, a clock, a thermometer and a communications device so that the public could contact the police, fire brigade, taxis etc. or gain information about, say, special services. The compartment is such that it can be fitted to any structures such as lamp standards or have a support part of its own. It can also be incorporated into for example, one wall of a bus shelter.
