The carburetter has a main jet and a slow running jet with a passage opening through orifices at the main throttle. The economiser has a double membrane on one side of which is a chamber connected to a point in the main carburetter discharge just below the throttle. On the other side of the membrane is a chamber connected to the slow running jet passage. The membrane operates a needle valve which admits air to the slow running jet to put it out of action. The operation of this valve is thus controlled by the pressure difference between the main and the slow running jet passages so that it works when the vehicle is decelerating and not when it accelerates.
