The wet crushing process produces dry fines suitable for use without further processing. The water used in the high efficiency separator is cleaned and recycled for further use. The fines from this separator (1) are pumped (5, 6) to cyclones (7), the dry fines being removed (8, 9) and the water passed to a weir type settling tank (11, 12). The heavy fractions from the separator (1) are pumped (13) to a cyclone (14) conveying the material to a crusher (15). The water is passed into a recovery tank (16, 21) together with the crushed pulp. This is recycled into a tank (19) and the separator together with recycled water (20, 25) from the settling tank (11, 12).
