The child proof latch does not require a key or combination but is opened by two push buttons which are spaced apart at a distance greater than the maximum stretch of a child's hand. The latch consists of two pushbuttons (1) spaced at either end of a bar (2) which is pressed against the flat bolt (6) by a leaf spring (3). The bar has a central projection (4) which locates in a slot in the bolt. When the two buttons are pushed inwards the projection is released from the slot and the bolt can be drawn against the action of a leaf spring (8) by a handgrip (7).
