Chopped forage crop is carried away from a chopper drum (4) on a conveyor (6) extending obliquely below the chopper drum (4) and is thrown by a transfer drum (7) into an air stream passing through a funnel part (9) which is connected by a transition part (11) to an ejecting pipe (12) provided with a deflecting shutter. The direction in which the crop approaches the chopper drum (4), and the plane of the ledger blade (3), make an acute angle with the horizontal. A curved deflector plate (5), the oblique conveyor, the transfer drum and a protective cover for the chopper drum, are formed as a single unit.
