The rails co-operate with the wheels 36, 37, Fig. 7, of a base frame 35 of a container to load it on to the vehicle when it is backed under the frame while supported on front and rear legs 44, 45 and 46, 47. The front of the frame is held against vertical displacement by cams 40, 41 cooperating with cams 12, 13 at the top of upright posts 10 of the stop bar 9 while longitudinal movement is prevented by a protrusion 29, Fig. 25, pivoted at 27 on a rail 7 and urged behind the wheels 36, 37 by springs 30, 31 when released from a notch 34 of a support 33. The rear of the frame is guided laterally by guides 38, 39, Fig. 7, engaging rail mounted guides 18, 19 and the frame is held in position by hooks 25 of brackets 20, 21. The rear legs comprise a part 58, Fig. 22, secured to the frame 35 and a lower part 59 pivoted thereto which can be held raised by a chain 64 or held vertical by a latch 68.
