1461723 Helicopter rotors TEXTRON Inc 15 May 1975 [16 May 1974] 20608/75 Heading B7W A helicopter rotor blade provided with redundant root structure to carry centrifugal loads should the leading edge spar fail comprises a leading edge spar 12 extended aft by top and bottom skin panels 14, 16 closed by a trailing edge spart and tip member, the root portion of the blade being reinforced by laminations 44-47 and grip plates 32, 34 which embrace chordally spaced blade attachment bushes 36, the end being closed by a glassfibre block 42. The trailing flanges of spar 12 are closed by a channel member 60 to the inside of which is bonded unidirectional fibreglass material which at the root end is divided at 76 and 78 to form a loop 84. This fits round a spool 40 surrounding the forward bush 36 and the structure is completed by a filler block 100 inserted in the loop cavity 101 and an embracing channel 110 which at its outboard end overlies member 60 and at its inboard end abuts flanges 88, 90 on spool 40. In an alternative construction (Fig. 8, not shown) the fibreglass material within channel member 60 is divided vertically and looped round block 42.
