Ca sulphate whiskers are stabilised with polymers contg. units of formula -CH(COOR5)-CH CONH(CR1R2)xNR3R4 -and/or -CH-CO (where R1, R2 and R5 are H or 1-4C alkyl. R3 and R4 are 1-4C alkyl or form a heterocycle. x=2-9). The whiskers are for use as fillers and or stabilisers for organic and/or inorganic compsns., mouldings, layers, coatings or films; and as fire-retardant materials, opt. in conjunction with other materials. Typical applications are in plastics rubbers and inorganic hydraulic binders, as (reinforcing) filler, extender and/or pigment, in the mr. paper, cardboard etc.
