FROST-RESISTANT EMULSION FOR PRE-PLANTING SPRAYING OF SEEDS AND MULCHING OF SOIL

Stable bitumen emulsions of their combinations with rubber latex, alkylphenylpolyglycolethers as stabilising agents and substances swelling in water such as aq. solns. of Na- or NH4-salts of polyacrylic acid, also contain 1-35%, pref. 2-20% urea. The emulsions formed are frostproof to ca -20 degrees C and retain their props. even after freezing solid in very cold weather and subsequent thawing. They may be used esp. in early spring and late autumn for soil mulching, spray-seeding of lawns etc. The urea acts as top fertilizer and saves extra work. The customary ammonia-losses in urea top-fertilisers are reduced because of the soil-clogging props. of the emulsions.
