The expanding plug consists of an externally threaded stud (2) which is attached to an expanding head (5) which is inserted into a hole in a partition sheet (30). The stud has a hole (3) down the centre, which terminates at the head. The head is divided up into segments by slots (8). The head is expanded by insertion of a pointed pin (10) into the hole (3). The head has a bulbous head connected to the stud by a tapered neck (4) which is forced open by the pin to fit tightly inside the hole. This neck terminates in a set of shoulders (6) which lock against the other side of the partition (30). Further design variations are based on this plug.
