1503004 Pyridine derivatives ROHM & HAAS CO 16 May 1975 [28 May 1974 3 June 1974] 20930/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises as novel compounds (1) 3 - pyridylmethyl N - (4 - cyanomethylphenyl)carbamate and acid-addition and complex-metal derivatives thereof, and (2) complexmetal derivatives of 3-pyridylmethyl 4-substituted phenyl ureas of the Formula I wherein X is -CORSP1/SP, -SRSP2/SP, -C#N or -NO 2 , RSP1/SP being a methyl, ethyl or propyl group and RSP2/SP being a C 1-4 alkyl group, a is 1 and M is a cadmium ion or a is 2 and M is a calcium, cobaltous, cupric, nickelous or zinc ion, Y is a halide anion and n is an integer corresponding to the valency of M. The compounds (1) may be obtained by reacting pyridyl-3-methanol with 4-cyanomethyl phenyl isocyanate, and if desired converting the carbamate produced into its derivatives, and the compounds (2) may be obtained by reacting the appropriate metal halides with the 3-pyridylmethyl 4- substituted phenyl ureas. Rodenticidal composition comprises one of the above compounds as active ingredient. 4-Cyanomethyl phenyl isocyanate may be prepared by reacting 4-cyanomethyl aniline with phosgene.
