Solubilized zona pellucida in vaccine - for immunological control of fertility

New vaccine for the immunological control of fertility in female mammals consists of an aq. soln. of H2O-solubilized zona pellucida (SZP) (prepd. by heating mammalian zone pellucida (ZP) at 65-100 degrees in an aq. medium consisting of buffered saline soln. at pH 7-7.4 until soln. occurs). Also new is an antiserum compsn. for the control of fertility in females consisting of cell-free sera contg. the antibody obtained by injecting into a mammalian host the (SZP) of a distinct donor species, then collecting the cell-free sera contg. serum antibodies. Vaccine is suitable for immunological fertility control of females, and provides a reversible state of infertility without disruption of the normal estrus cycle. Anti-sera compsn. is useful for the passive immunological control of fertility giving short-term infertility and preventing uterine implantation.
