The machine automatically mills grooves in wooden workpieces and has a number of milling heads (12) sliding along and lockable in position on a horizontal guide movable to and fro. These work in conjunction with a number of clamping heads (4) for the work, sliding along and lockable on a fixed horizontal guide (2), in positions alongside the milling heads and also near the ends of the work. The movable guide can comprise two parallel horizontal bars working in plain bearings (7) fixed to the machine frame (1) and joined to each other by yokes (8) at the ends. The yokes are supported in a spring mounting (9) in the frame.
