The system is designed to form an image with a continuously variable reduction for use in a electrophotographic copying machine. The machine has a transparent platen for supporting the documents to be copied. A photoconducting surface is mounted in the machine. A principal motor is connected to the photoconducting surface so as to displace it in the machine. A light source illuminates the document towards an image plane. An objective support element can be displaced to first and second positions. Movement to the first position produces an image approximately the same as those of the surface of a first-document. Movement to the second position produces a second image of a second document larger than the surface of the first document. The machine also has mechanism for positioning the objective support element along a guide track.
