System for the connection to its anchorage of a submersible column used for petroleum prods. piping incorporates a cable, which can be let go and which has floats to maintain a part of its length at a distance above the sea-bed so that it can be picked up easily by a hook. The free end of the cable is raised to bring it to the surface and insert it into the foot of the column. The foot of the column is engaged in the anchorage structure by traction of the cable. The lower end of the cable includes a block and tackle, the lower block of which is fixed on the anchorage base. The cable also carries a float maintaining a part of it at a fixed level above the sea-bed. The float includes the upper part of the block and tackle. The cable carries a sleeve which acts as a stop and the float has a means of guiding and securing the sleeve. After the cable has been passed into the column, the column is lowered until the float assembly enters the column and becomes secured. the foot of the column is then drawn by traction on the cable unit it enters the anchorage base. The operations are indicated by signals on a panel at the surface. Problems associated with maintaining the guide lines vertical and without torsion, and the complexity and cost of positioning devices using cameras or sonars, are avoided. In an emergency such as can occur in arctic regions where there are icebergs, the column can easily be disconnected from its anchor. The cable can easily be picked up again.
