Shotgun cartridges incorporating an integral polyolefin (polyethylene) moulding which provides a compartment for the shot, a pressure pad sepg. the shot chamber from the explosive charge and a intermediate structure (A) which can deform to damp the initial impulse and corresponding reaction to the discharge. The intermediate structure comprises a series of radial planes sepd. by arrays of ribs which are staggered to allow the planes to flex between adjacent ribs. Case is suitable for cartridges for hunting or competition purposes. Use of separate wadding of cotton or granulated cork with associated costs, inconsistencies and assembly operations is avoided. Provides symmetrical longitudinal compression (H'-Hr) with damping characteristics which can be controlled and reproduced by suitable rib design. The deformation can also develop radially to provide a uniform seal for providing the explosive gases from by-passing between the projectile and the cartridge walls.
