Liquid cooling apparatus for the rapid solidification of the molten coating of a hot dipped tinned wire, comprising a pressure chamber having a gas feed branch, installed below, and connected in gas-tight manner to, the bottom of a liquid container, openings being provided in vertical alignment in the top and bottom of the liquid container and the bottom of the pressure chamber, through which the wire can be transported free from any contact. The tin coating can be rapidly solidified without loss of concentricity of the coating relative to the wire periphery and axis.
