The analyser uses photodetectors to detect electromagnetic radiation dispersed by the particle suspension and provides a value proportional to the amount of polarisation, which is dependent on the mean diameter of the particles held in suspension. This value is combined with a further value indicating the amount of radiation dispersed and/or absorbed by the particle suspension, to provide an output signal. Pref. the quotient of the latter two values is obtained to provide an output signal which is a linear function of the specific number multiplied by the mean dia. of the particles in the suspension.
