The process is carried out by mixing a porous aggregate with a gypsum-water slurry as binder, filling the mixture into moulds and allowing the contents of the mould to set. Now the aim is to demonstrate a method in which even the rubble and waste material occurring in relatively large quantities in the construction industry in the production and use of panels no longer has to be deposited in environmentally polluting landfill sites, but can be usefully incorporated back into the production process. For this purpose it is proposed to use as porous aggregate steam-hardened gas concrete rubble and/or gas concrete waste material which has a bulk density of 0.3 to 0.9 kg/dm3 and has been comminuted to form chips, chip fractions having grain sizes smaller than or equal to 50 mm being screened out and the screened-out gas concrete chips being added to the mixture in a quantity such that its volume proportion in the finished lightweight construction panel is preferably 75 to 85%.
