Additives of MgO, dolomite etc. are used for neutralising acid combustion gas components. The pref. powdered additive is mixed to a slurry with a carrier liquid, pref. water, and continuously circulated in a circuit which includes the delivery point; the particles are kept in suspension. A portion of the stream, determined according to the requirements of the burner operation is branched off from the circuit and introduced into the firing space, spatially separated from the fuel inlet.
