1,151,101. Rotary wing aircraft. BELL AEROSPACE CORP. 26 April, 1966 [26 April, 1965], No. 14049/66. Addition to 1,057,741. Heading B7W. A rotary wing aircraft having a plurality of rotor blades 454 dimensioned to have a greater stiffness to in-plane bending than to bending out of the plane of rotation, a rotor driving member 410 and a hub 412 having a central portion 420 integral with a flexure plate 432 and a blade mounting extension 436 for each of the blades, each having a blade grip member 452 disposed predominantly chordwise of and alongside the extension 436 to which it is connected by bearings (at sections 13 and 15) for blade pitch movements, the ratio of stiffness to bending in the plane-of-rotation to that out of the plane-ofrotation being less for the combination of the extension 436 and the member 452 than for the flexure plate. In the illustrated embodiment the rotor is a see-saw rotor pivoting about bearings 416, 418. The radial load in the blade is taken by a laminated loop passing over two pins of which the axes lie in the planes of sections 13 and 15. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the blade mounting extension 436 is bolted to the flexure plate 412 which is rectangular in plan without an aperture, and the pitch change arm is mounted on the trailing side of the member 452.
