During the treatment of alumina ores with caustic alkalis a complex mixt. of sodium and potassium sulphates and aluminosilicates is formed together with other alkali sol. components in the ore. The slurry so produced can be sepd. into coarse and fine components by sepg. the fractions in a hydro separator and taking the heavy fraction via mixer to vaccum filter. This is rotating and passes through a wash cycle as shown before discharge to dump. The fraction still contains 25% of the process soln. and this is washed out by water in 1:1 ratio water/solids.
