A data storage and playback arrangement has data recorded in thin layer of film (5) used as data carrier and imaged on the detector. The data are imaged by means of reading beams. The detector consists of photocells and converts the data to electrical signals. The layer of film has light modulating properties at least on the recording positions of the data. - The output signals of the photocells are passed to selectors. The electrical signals are selected in such a way that only signals of that photocell (7) are played back or evaluated which is hit best by the reading beam.
